visible deterioration of the film, or a lightening or darkening that exceeds more than 10% of the original reflectance.
3.11 Sand abrasion resistance of coating. The coating top coat shall withstand at least 20 liters of sand per mil of thickness when tested in accordance with ASTM-D968.
3.12 Workmanship. The corrugated sheets shall be free from laminations, slivers, open seams, mill scale, heavy rolled-in-scale, ragged edges, turned down corners, or other extraneous abrasions affecting appearance or serviceability. Painted sheets shall, in addition to the above, be free from blisters, pits, thin spots, runs, steaks, or abrasions, damaging to the coating.
3.13 Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under this provisions of the contract.
3.14 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest version of FED-STD-376, and all other requirements of this commercial item description are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch/pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable. The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product.
3.15 Quality assurance. The corrugated steel sheets shall be examined for the following defects. Presence of one or more defects shall be cause for rejection.
a. Nesting and overlapping not as specified (see 3.1).
b. Corrugation not as specified.
c. Sheet ends more than 5/16 inch out-of-square.
d. Covering width not as specified.
e. The dimensions for type I roofing sheet not as specified.
f. Edges for type I roofing sheet not turned in opposite direction.
g. The dimensions for type II siding sheet not as specified.
h. Edges for type II siding sheets not turned in the same direction.
i. Thickness of unpainted sheets not as specified.
j. Treatment and painting, when specified, and color and gloss not as specified.
k. Salt resistance of coating not as specified.
l. Sand abrasion resistance of coating not as specified.
m. Workmanship not as specified.
